Tannhäuser. Auch dass Tannhäuser die meiste Zeit mit dem Rücken zu Venus stand, selbst wenn sie im Dialog waren, wirkte störend. Im Hintergrund, auf einem Gerüst stehend, tauchten vier Personen in Alltagskleidung auf, die Tiermasken (Hund, Wolf, Schaf, Esel) trugen – ein irritierendes Detail, das auch ästhetisch wenig beitrug.

Marc Clémeur is a well known personality in the international music world. In 1984, after having worked as a producer with the BRT (Belgian Radio and Television), he became the general manager for the Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra (now Antwerp Symphony).
In 1989 he was appointed general director of Flanders Opera, which he ran for nearly 20 years and ushered towards international fame. In 2009 he became the general director of the Strasbourg Opéra national du Rhin, where he was able to attract international audiences and in whose Opera Studio he spotted many a young talented singer.
Génération Opéra is a Paris association that mainly consists of opera managers in France, and some from Belgium and Switzerland. The idea is to guide young opera singers towards a professional career.
Lohengrin. Then, too, we have Lohengrin and Telramund fight their duel in the air, hanging by ropes. This is not because the costumes of all the characters portray them as moths attracted to the electric power plant’s kinetic energy, but because Sharon somehow finds Lohengrin as a Peter Pan archetype, a boy who wishes to never grow up
Norma. Als Operndirektor Rainer Karlitschek in seiner Einführung erklärte, man werde beim Gesang der Sopranistin Nombulelo Yende, die die Titelpartie der Norma sang, zu Tränen gerührt sein, nahmen wir dies zunächst nicht wörtlich. Doch Yende verfügt tatsächlich über eine Stimme, die tief berührt. Mehrfach während des Abends stellte sich Gänsehaut ein – und tatsächlich auch Tränen, erstmals während der berühmten Arie Casta Diva.
Tosca. Amsterdam, klein Toscane, bracht een Tosca in 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1978, 1985, 1998, 1999, 2022, 2025. In 2025 staat Tosca nog een keer op het programma, maar nu met “simulaties van geweld, seksueel misbruik, moord en suicide”. Jippie!
